Campaign Story

Argirios Kougioumtzoglou is a man from Mytilene who is fighting an uneven battle in order to get his life back, since he is being hospitalized in a rehabilitation center suffering from right-sided hemiplegia, resulting from an acute ischemic stroke. A few months ago, the 62-year-old father and husband suffered an acute myocardial infarction. A few days later he underwent a bypass surgery. However, shortly after the procedure, he suffered an ischemic stroke that caused him to slip into a coma and remain in the ICU for almost 1 month. When he regained consciousness, he was diagnosed with right-sided hemiplegia. He was unable to speak, eat or tend to himself. He was immediately transferred to a rehabilitation center, however, in spite of all the doctors’ efforts, he is still unable to move, while he wears at all times a tracheostomy and a gastrostomy tube in order to stay alive. It’s imperative that this man remains hospitalized for at least 3 more months, in order to regain his lost skills, stand on his feet and return home to his loving family in Mytilene!  The total cost for his rehabilitation plan amounts to 19, 050 euros, a sum that is impossible to gather without everyone’s support! His family is making a public appeal, since his health condition still remains critical. If he doesn’t receive the necessary treatments, his condition might become irreversible.
