Campaign Story

Valentina is a 5-year-old girl who lives in the island of Cyprus. When she was 2 years old she was diagnosed with, spastic diplegia and epilepsy. Ever since she was toddler she has been suffering, since she has been experiencing intense myosceletical pain, while her motor skills are severely impaired. After years of struggling, while being subjected to an intensive treatment program, she managed to stand. However, she cannot walk and her steps lack of balance and coordination, thus she cannot walk without assistance. As time goes by, the pain she is experiencing is becoming even more intense, since she is still suffering from brain paralysis and spasticity.  <br>

There is an innovative procedure that has so far showed impressive results for children who are suffering from this kind of brain paralysis: the procedure is called selective dorsal rhizotomy, which is being performed in the Children’s Hospital of St.Louis in the United States. According to the specialized doctors who reviewed her case, Valentina is the perfect candidate for this procedure; therefore they have approved her immediate admission. Valentina must immediately fly out to the United States, so that she can have a chance to a normal life like all other kids her age.

The total cost for her operation and hospitalization, as well as for her family’s stay in St.Louis, amounts to 117,000 euros. We simply cannot allow the financial aspect to get in the way of the health and happiness of a little kid. Let us all offer Valentina a chance, so that she can walk on her own and live her life to the fullest! If we all join forces, we can make it happen!
