Campaign Story

For the past 17 years, 46-year-old Achilleas is suffering from spastic quadriplegia, resulting from a severe craniocerebral injury. In 2005, he hit his head and he was rushed to a hospital of Thessaloniki, where he was immediately subjected to surgery. After a week in the ICU, Achilleas regain consciousness; however as soon as he opened his eyes, he realized that he couldn’t move his extremities. After his discharge, he had been hospitalized in various rehabilitation centers, and after three years of hard work, he managed to improve his motor skills. Even though his physicians strongly recommended that he wouldn’t quit his treatment program, Achilleas had to give up his physiotherapy treatments and return to his hometown, in Kilkis, where he lives with his mother, his son and his wife, due to financial hardship. 

Al of these years, Achilleas remains confined to a wheelchair, unable to fend for himself. However, his family recently located a specialized physiotherapy center, which provides state of the art equipment and highly experienced staff. According to his physicians, Achilleas needs to be subjected to an intensive physiotherapy program for a period of one year, so that he can finally stand on his own. Unfortunately, the family doesn’t have the means to raise the funds required for his treatment plan. His mother and wife are unemployed, since they are his sole caregivers.
