Short Story

Chrisostomos and Dimitris are two siblings, 5 and 3 years old respectively, who have been diagnosed with autism. A few months ago, the two brothers were enrolled to an Early intervention Center for preschoolers, where they are being subjected to a program that includes among other things, speech therapy and occupational therapy exercises. So far, it seems like this program is positively affecting their overall behavior.

Campaign Story

Chrisostomos and Dimitris are two siblings, 5 and 3 years old respectively, who have been diagnosed with autism. When Chrisostomos was born, he didn’t present with any health complications. However, when he reached the age of two, his mother started to worry since little Chrisostomos wouldn’t speak, wouldn’t make eye contact, while he wouldn’t respond to his name. After a series of exams and specialized developmental tests, Chrisostomos was diagnosed with childhood autism. Just like Chrisostomos, Dimitris didn’t present with any health complications during his birth. However, as months went by, his mother started to notice that he would manifest the same symptoms as his brother did, and after a series of tests, the second child of the family was also diagnosed with autism.

After the developmental pediatrician’s recommendations, the two brothers were enrolled a few months ago to an Early intervention Center for preschoolers, where they are being subjected to a program that includes among other things, speech therapy and occupational therapy exercises. So far, it seems like this program is positively affecting their overall behavior and interaction skills, while according to the developmental pediatrician, the two brothers will need to proceed with their treatments for at least one more year.

All of these years, Chrisostomos’ and Dimitris’ mother has been doing everything in her power in order to provide her children with everything they need. However, she is unable to cope with the monthly cost of her son’s treatments, which are taking place in a specialized facility in Athens, since her income is low and she hasn’t been able to renew her health insurance.

Let us all support this mother, so that she’ll be able to offer her children a better future. One small gesture can make a difference!
