Maria-Danai is a 38-year-old woman, who over the past few years, has been fighting for her life. It all started about 6 years ago, when the 32-year-old mother detected a mass in the left parotid gland. Without wasting any precious time, Maria-Danai consulted her doctor, while she was soon admitted to a clinic in Thessaloniki, in order to have her tumor removed. Her ordeal, however, was far from over, since 6 years later, another tumor developed in the exact same place. Maria-Danai had to undergo a second surgery, while this time her biopsy revealed that this was in fact a salivary gland neoplasm. 

Six months after the second surgery, Maria-Danai’s follow-up tests revealed that the cancer had come back. This time, however, the tumor extended to the base of the skull. Following doctors’ recommendations, the young woman was admitted to a university hospital of Hannover, where she was subjected to two consecutive surgeries that consisted of the removal of the tumor and the reconstruction of her palate. The 38-year-old mother is currently hospitalized in the university hospital of Hannover, while she has a tracheostomy and a gastrostomy, since she is still unable to swallow. According to the hospital’s medical staff, Maria-Danai will be soon transferred to a specialized center in Germany, in order to undergo radiation therapy.

Maria-Danai’s husband has found himself in a dead end, while he reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS since he is unable to afford the cost of his wife’s surgery and hospitalization. At the same time, the family will have to remain in Germany for a long period of time, something that adds up to additional expenses. As soon as the Organization’s medical and social department reviewed Maria-Danai’s files, we immediately took all necessary action in order to organize this aid campaign that will allow the 38-year-old mother to remain in Germany and to undergo the required treatments!

Over the past 6 years, Maria-Danai has been facing an uphill struggle. Today, however, she is asking for our help, since her life is in danger. We cannot turn our backs on her! Her children need their mother, healthy and happy! So let us all join forces and offer this 38-year-old mother a second chance in life!
