Short Story

Paraskevi is 27 years old and she suffers from mental impairment and spastic quadriplegia, due to complications during labor. At the age of 9, she was diagnosed with a severe form of gastro-esophageal reflux disease and esophagitis. As a result, she was subjected to a gastrostomy, which she wears till this day. According to the doctors who monitor her condition, the use of a wheelchair is imperative, since she needs to spend most of the day in a sitting position, in order to avoid any aspiration or acid reflux. Furthermore, the use of the wheelchair was also essential in order to move freely around the house, since she also suffers from quadriplegia.

Paraskevi urgently needs a wheelchair!

Paraskevi is 27 years old and she suffers from mental impairment and spastic quadriplegia, due to complications during labor. At the age of 9, she was diagnosed with a severe form of gastro-esophageal reflux disease and esophagitis. As a result, she was subjected to a gastrostomy, which she wears till this day. The doctors then recommended the use of a wheelchair, since due to her health condition, Paraskevi needed to spend most of the day in a sitting position, in order to prevent any aspiration or acid reflux. Furthermore, the use of the wheelchair was also essential in order to move freely around the house, since she also suffers from quadriplegia.

Recently however, Paraskevi’s wheelchair suffered great damage and it needs to be immediately replaced, since it is essential for her overall health condition. For the past six months, Paraskevi is unable to cope with her daily needs, while she often suffers from acid reflux. Her mother however, doesn’t have the means to purchase the new wheelchair, since all of these years she has been unable to work, while being Paraskevi’s sole care-taker.

Paraskevi is going through an ordeal and she urgently needs a new wheelchair, fully adapted for her needs. After consulting with the physiatrist who monitors her condition, the price of the wheelchair she requires amounts to 2.872 Euros.

Yesterday, Paraskevi turned 27. Let us all join forces and offer her the most beautiful birthday present: The wheelchair she needs in order to have a better quality of life!
