Campaign Story

After losing his father to Huntington’s disease, Fotis started to manifest similar symptoms when he was just 12 years old. Movement and speech disorder, dysphagia, self- destructive behavior, cognitive impairment, all led to the same conclusion. His mother took him to the hospital for further genetic testing that confirmed their biggest fear: Huntington’s disease. A neurodegenerative, inherited disease, which causes the progressive degeneration of the central nervous system, leading to paralysis and Intellectual disability.  

Today, Fotis is 26 years old. He is unable to move his extremities, while he remains confined to a wheelchair. He has difficulty swallowing and he cannot verbally communicate. He is mostly unaware of his surroundings, while he is also manifesting severe mental disorders. Time is his biggest enemy, since his cognitive and motor skills are gradually fading away.  

Hone-based speech and physical therapy, medical equipment and medical expendables, are of the essence in order to relieve his daily suffering and offer him a better quality of life. Fotis needs us more than ever!
