<p>A few hours ago, the airlift of our beloved Christina – Areti from Crete to Athens was successfully completed, which was organized and executed under the supervision of the ”Act of Love” Organization and with its own resources. The airlift of the 28 year old student, who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 (SMA), was carried out in cooperation with Greek Flying Doctors, the Crete Ambulance Service and the Attica Rehabilitation Center. The need for the immediate transfer of the young student to the center was imperative as her health condition has deteriorated rapidly and according to the doctors who are monitoring her, her undergoing the necessary treatments is the only hope for a substantial improvement in her quality of life.<br />
Today we all together managed to offer a first chance to Christina – Areti’s life struggle. However, the road is long and we need to stand by her side in order for her to be able to “have a more functional and dignified everyday life” as she says.<br />
We continue to dynamically support her struggle. Together we can!<br />

Together, we keep on fighting for Christina-Areti, the 28-year-old student who is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy!

<p>Christina-Areti is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy type 2 (SMA), a neurological disease that leads to gradual weakness of the muscles. During the past three years, her condition has deteriorated to the point where she is now confined to a bed, unable to fend for herself and use her wheelchair.<br />
According to the professionals who monitor her condition, the only way for her health, and consequently her quality of life, to show improvement, is to be admitted to a rehabilitation center in order to be subjected to an intensive treatment program.<br />
“Act of Kindness” has recently organized the airlift mission from Crete to Athens, by own funds, in collaboration with the private company “Greek Flying Doctors”, Crete’s National Center of Emergency Care station and the “Attica Rehabilitation Center”.<br />
Currently, Areti is going through her second month in the rehabilitation center, where she is being subjected to an intensive treatment program, which aims to strengthen her muscular system so that she’ll be able to sit up on her own and use her wheelchair, in order to regain some degree of independence.<br />
Thanks to your sensitivity and your defining support, we have managed to settle the first few months of her hospitalization. However, we still have a long way to go, since the cost of year-long hospitalization amounts to an unbearable sum that she doesn’t have the means to cover.<br />
Christina-Areti is going through a hard time, however she is not giving up. She keeps on fighting with immense courage and persistence, thanks to all of you out there who have been standing by her side since day one. If we all join forces, we’ll be able to provide her with the necessary treatments and offer her a better future. Together, we can make it happen!</p>

She wants to be able to use her wheelchair like she used to!

<p>Christina-Areti, an well-educated young lady, filled with dreams for the future, is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy type 2. For the past few years, she has been confined to a bed, unable to stand on her own!<br />
“My main goal is to manage to get out of bed and to be able to use my wheelchair, in order to achieve a more functional lifestyle and in order to live with dignity”.<br />
Her only option was the rehabilitation center. However, the cost of her airlift and hospitalization was immense. On 9.2.22, the Organization performed Christina-Areti’s airlift from Crete to Athens, on its own funds.<br />
5 months ago, the 28-year old student was admitted to the rehabilitation center, where she is being subjected to an intensive physiotherapy program, which will allow her to use my wheelchair and to be able to fend for herself.<br />
What first seemed utopian, is gradually coming true!<br />
During the months of her hospitalization, Christina-Areti fought hard along with the amazing medical staff, who keeps fighting alongside her, and she recently managed to sit in her wheelchair! Just for a few seconds, still she has the required self-determination and will-power to make it happen! According to the medical staff, but also according to her, she is making great progress!<br />
Since her condition is improving, new needs have arisen. Christina-Areti will require additional orthopedic equipment, which combined with her treatment plan, will offer her the chance to further improve her motor skills.<br />
The aid campaign’s initial funding goal amounted to 77.520 Euros, however we had to readjust it to 89.520 Euros, in order to provide her with the equipment she needs.<br />
Thanks to all of you out there, we have settled the cost of her stay in the rehabilitation center for the past five months. However, Christina-Areti still has a long way ahead of her until she finally reaches her goal.<br />

"I dream of the day where I’ll be sitting outside in my wheelchair, gazing into the sun one more time…"

<p>28-year-old Christina-Areti is fighting with all of her powers, while hospitalized in the rehabilitation center. Driven by strong will and determination, she is doing her best in order to acquire the degree of independence that will allow her to sit in her wheelchair. This is what she dreams of. To be able to use her wheelchair like she used to. That’s the only thing she wants! A well-educated young woman with an insatiable thirst for life, is asking for our help. Any contribution, will be more than enough to offer her a better quality of #life! All for one, right? She needs us in order to remain in the rehabilitation center for a few more months. Let us all ensure that she proceeds with her hard-fought battle. Her condition is gradually improving and she needs just a little bit more time. We are counting on you! Latest update regarding Christina-Areti!

<p>She will soon receive her orthopedic chest #brace! After acquiring her new wheelchair, thanks to all of you out there, she can now intensify her efforts with the use of an orthopedic brace!<br />
The 28-year-old student, who is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy type 2, has been hospitalized in a rehabilitation center of Athens, for the past 8 months. So far, her condition has shown great improvement, since she has managed, after 4 long years, to sit in her wheelchair! Her arm muscles have strengthened significantly, while she can also bend her right wrist!<br />
In a few days she will receive the orthopedic chest brace that we have already ordered, which will improve her posture, allowing her to sit more comfortably in her new wheelchair, which we have managed to acquire thanks to your support!<br />
Chrisitna-Areti is extremely grateful, since she can now fight for a better quality of life thanks to you. The young fighter still has a long way ahead of her, however she is not giving up. She is determined to fight till the end, in order to be able to sit in her wheelchair and to regain some degree of independence.<br />
Today, she needs us more than ever. Together, we can help her make her dreams come true!<br />
