Short Story

Ivana is an adorable little girl who is suffering from a rare form of arterio-venous malformations, which are located in the area of the pharyngeal wall, the tongue and the right cheek. Thanks to your valuable contribution, Ivana had the opportunity to be subjected to 7 treatment sessions of embolization and electrochemotherapy! The results of these treatments were astonishing, since the size of her tongue is now significantly reduced in size, while she recently had her tracheostomy removed! Our efforts, however, don’t end here, since the size of her tongue is still disproportionate, while the doctors who have taken on her case, estimate that she will need at least four more embolization sessions.

Campaign Story

Ivana is an adorable little girl who is suffering from a rare form of arterio-venous malformations, which are located in the area of the pharyngeal wall, the tongue and the right cheek. One year after she was born, the little girl had to be subjected to a tracheostomy and a gastrostomy, since the malformations were obstructing her airway, while she couldn’t be orally fed due to the size of her tongue.

Since this is an extremely rare case of arterio-venous malformations and since it could not be treated in any public hospital of the country, the hospital’s doctors referred Ivana’s mother to a private clinic of Athens, and more specifically, to a team of interventional radiologists, who are specialized in cases of arterio-venous malformations. The cost of the treatments however was immense and Ivana’s mother had found herself in a dead end. As soon as she contacted ACT OF KINDNESS, the Organization launched an aid campaign in order to support this little girl who was facing an uphill struggle.

The response of our fellow citizens was extremely moving, since thanks to your valuable contribution, we managed to gather the sum of 165.507,71 Euros! A sum which was channeled into 7 treatment sessions of embolization and electrochemotherapy! The results of these treatments were astonishing, since the size of her tongue is now significantly reduced in size, while she recently had her tracheostomy removed!

Our efforts, however, don’t end here, since the size of her tongue is still disproportionate, while the doctors who have taken on her case, estimate that she will need at least four more embolization sessions.

Ivana has been struggling ever since she came into this world. Nothing, however, can wipe the smile off her face. We stand by this little fighter. If we join forces, we will be able to offer her a better quality of life. Together, for Ivana!
