Campaign Story

Thanos is a 6-year-old boy, who has been diagnosed with autism. During the first two years of his life, everything appeared to be normal. The little guy had reached all developmental milestones, without any delay. Shortly after his second birthday however, his mother started to notice major changes in his behavior. The child was exhibiting aggressive behavior. He wouldn’t respond to his name, while he gradually stopped speaking altogether. His parents consulted with a developmental pediatrician, and after a series of tests, Thanos was diagnosed with diffuse developmental disorders.

Over the past 3 years, the child has been subjected to speech therapy, occupational therapy and counseling. His condition has shown some improvement, however the little guy is still unable to form sentences, while his fine motor skills are not yet developed. The little boy was recently enrolled in a special needs school, while he has gradually begun to socialize. According, however, to the developmental pediatrician and the child psychiatrist, who monitor his condition, the child’s treatment sessions must increase in frequency. Unfortunately, these additional treatments, which are essential for the child’s development, are not covered by the family’s health insurance provider.

Little Thanos’ parents have found themselves in a dead end, since they are unable to cope with the cost of the additional treatments. Furthermore, the father’s recent cancer diagnosis is taking an additional toll on the family’s budget. Not knowing where to turn, they recently reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS and after further communication between our interdisciplinary staff and the doctors who monitor the child’s condition, the Organization proceeded with the necessary actions in order to launch this aid campaign, which will allow this little boy to improve his motor and language skills.

Thanos is an adorable, smiling, little boy, who is so eagerly waiting for a chance to speak, to play, to live, like all children his age! Together, we have the power to help him and to offer him the right tools, which will allow him to live a better life!
