Campaign Story

6-year-old Maria was diagnosed 2 months ago with an extremely aggressive form of cancer- alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the inguinal/femoral area- and she is now fighting for her life.

It all started when her pediatrician discovered a rather “innocent” lump, after a routine check-up. After being subjected to additional tests, the doctors strongly recommended that the little girl should be sent to a hospital in Athens for further evaluation, the result of which turned out to be devastating: high risk malignant tumor. The girl was then immediately admitted to the oncology ward of a public hospital, in order to be subjected to the painful procedure of chemotherapy. Till this day, she is receiving all the care she requires free of charge, while she is staying at the hospital’s guest house. After the treatment is completed, Maria will undergo surgery, so that the doctors will remove the tumors, and afterwards she will be subjected to radiation therapy. Once the radiation therapy is completed, the oncologists who follow her case will determine the next steps of her treatment.

Maria still has a long way to go and her parents will stay by her side for as long as she is being hospitalized, while they constantly travel back and forth to their hometown in order to see Maria’s younger sibling. Our support is of the essence so that her parents can care for their family, while being far away from their home and their jobs.

Together, we can help Maria and her family throughout this ordeal! Even the slightest gesture, can offer them some sense of relief!
