The happiness of a newlywed couple was completed a few months ago, when they got informed about the arrival of their first child. During the first weeks of pregnancy, everything seemed to be normal. According, however, to the ultrasound that was performed a few weeks ago, the unborn baby is suffering from trisomy 18. And just when the new parents were trying to process this new information, they received one more diagnosis which was a punch to the gut, since the findings of the B-level ultrasound revealed severe cardiovascular defects.

According to the specialized heart surgeon, who closely monitors the mother’s pregnancy, the delivery needs to be performed in a private facility of Athens, so that little Despina will be immediately subjected to the required heart surgery. The two young parents have found themselves in a dead end, since they are unable to afford the cost of the delivery and the heart surgery, to which their baby girl will have to be subjected immediately after birth. As soon as they reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS, the Organization’s interdisciplinary staff came in contact with the doctor who will be performing the surgery, and without wasting any precious time, we organized this aid campaign, which will allow this little angel to be subjected to this life-saving surgery!

The mother is currently in her 27th week of pregnancy. We are running out of time. If baby Despina is not subjected to the heart surgery immediately after she is born, her life will be in danger! We cannot allow this to happen. Together, we have the power to offer this unborn little angel a second chance in life!
