Campaign Story

Gavriil is an adorable 3-year-old boy, who has had to overcome many challenges at such a tender age. About one and a half year ago, the child was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, an aggressive form of cancer which is most common among children. Immediately after his diagnosis, he was admitted to the pediatric oncology department of a public hospital of Thessaloniki, in order to be subjected to the required chemotherapy rounds. Gavriil’s mother had to quit her job, in order to be close to her son who was fighting for his life. As we can all understand, the little boy’s family had found themselves in a dead end. They reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS, and thanks to your sensitivity, we managed to cover the cost of the family’s living expenses, as well as the cost of the little guy’s health-related expenses, for the entire duration of his hospitalization!

A few months ago, Gavriil completed his treatments and returned home. The little guy is currently undergoing maintenance therapy, while the doctors who monitor his condition are confident that he’ll make a full recovery! Obviously, Gavriil still needs to be regularly subjected to follow-up tests, while he is closely monitored by the oncologists of the hospital.

His family however, needs our support once more, since they are still struggling and haven’t been able to get back on their feet. Gavriil’s father has a high disability rating, while his mother is still unable to return to her place of employment, since the little guy requires care on a 24 hour basis and is still too fragile to go to daycare. On top of that, the child’s health-related expenses are taking a great toll on the family’s budget. Little Gavriil’s family recently came in contact with ACT OF KINDNESS, and after a thorough inquiry, conducted by our medical and social department, we organized this aid campaign in order to support this family who are struggling both financially and emotionally.

Little Gavriil has been through a lot in such a short period of time. Nothing however can wipe the smile off his face. We have the power to stand by this little hero, who has been fighting the greatest battle of his life over the past one and a half year. One small gesture can make a great difference!
