Campaign Story

Giorgos-Anastasios is a 6-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with Klinefelter syndrome, a chromosomal abnormality which manifests itself with psychokinetic delay, deafness and motor dysfunction. Over the past few years, the little guy has been regularly subjected to physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, and so far this coordinated effort seems to be paying off, since the child can now walk on his own and form small sentences. Recently, the little guy got enrolled in a special needs school and so far he seems really excited for this new beginning, since he has already started to make new friends and to socialize.  

A few months ago, our little friend’s family had contacted the Organization, since his implant had suffered irreversible damage. Thanks to your defining support, we managed to immediately replace it. During a recent game with his friends, the implant got damaged again, however this damage is not covered by the warranty provided by the hearing aid company. The speech processor needs to be replaced as soon as possible, since without it, the child can’t hear a thing.

Our social workers have been deliberating with the authorized distributors of the hearing aid company, trying to come up with a solution. Unfortunately, the damage cannot be covered by the family’s health insurance provider or the product’s warranty. As a result, the child is now deprived of his hearing aid.

We cannot allow this to happen. We will do our best in order to provide the child with the new speech processor, since his family is unable to cope with the cost of this purchase. Giorgos-Anastasios needs us more than ever. Together, we can offer him what he so desperately needs: the gift of hearing!
