Campaign Story

Linos is a 6-year-old boy, who came into this world under rather adverse circumstances, since he was born extremely premature. When he was just 2 days old, he developed hemorrhagic hydrocephalus. The little guy had to spend the first months of his life in the NICU, while his twin brother departed a few days after their birth.

Even though the doctors said that he would never be able to walk or speak, this little fighter proved everyone wrong. A few years ago, he started physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and neurokinetic therapy, and so far the results of this coordinated effort have been impressive, since the little guy recently managed to take his first steps and utter his first words!

However, our little friend is still suffering from epileptic seizures, while he has a VP shunt on a permanent basis. Over the past year, there have been major complications regarding the function of his VP shunt, therefore Linos had to be subjected to numerous surgical procedures, since he has been diagnosed with compartmentalized hydrocephalus, while he has been also subjected to Achilles tendon lengthening.

The child has been subjected to a total of 36 surgical procedures, while everything he has accomplished so far, could only be considered a miracle. Our little friend’s parents are in despair, since they are unable to cope with the cost of the specialized treatments he requires, or the cost of the surgical procedures he has been subjected to. So far, they have spent over 100.000 Euros, and they have sold everything in their possession.

Linos’ mother recently contacted the Organization, asking for our support. Her words have touched our hearts: ”If I were to describe Linos, I would have to say that he is the most sweet, strong, wise and wonderful person I have ever met. And I’m not just saying that because he is my child, but because I have been honored to stand by his side throughout his life journey and to witness first-hand the unfathomable strength that all little children possess. Linos has fought a lot of battles early on. He taught us to do the same, while he is daily reminding us, in his own way, the greatest truth of all: love has no limits. Love always defeats fear. Because I’ll have to admit that as his mother, I’m scared out of my mind. There are times that I feel every cell of my being shaking out of fear. His smile however, drives all the negative thoughts away. His pure and infantile soul is more than enough to shatter all my doubts. We will pull through”.

Little Linos has been fighting ever since he came into this world. Today however, he needs our help. Let us all stand by his side, throughout this endless struggle for survival!
