Short Story

About one year ago, Maximos was diagnosed with a genetic mutation, which has never been reported in the medical literature to this day, while a few days later he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Due to the rare genetic mutation he is suffering from, the child is presenting with psychomotor regression. This means that the little guy’s cognitive and motor skills are those of a toddler. According to the pediatrician who monitors his condition, Maximos needs to be daily subjected to physiotherapy exercises, which will increase the joint range of motion and which will allow him to achieve his walking patterns through gait re-education. At the same time, Maximos needs to be closely monitored by the hospital’s neurologists and oncologists, since he is still undergoing maintenance chemotherapy.

Little Maximos is suffering from a rare genetic mutation, while he has also been diagnosed with leukemia. He needs our immediate support!

Campaign Story

Maximos had always been a healthy and energetic boy. This all changed however about one year ago, when the little guy experienced a severe epileptic crisis. His parents rushed him to the local hospital, however his condition was quite severe, therefore he had to be transferred to a hospital in Thessaloniki. After a series of specialized tests, the little guy was diagnosed with a genetic mutation that has never been reported in the medical literature to this day. This means that no one can know with certainty how this disease will progress on a neurological level.

When Maximos’ parents received this diagnosis, they lost the ground beneath their feet. Before they even had the chance to come to terms with the news, these two parents received one more diagnosis which felt like a punch in the gut: acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The little guy was immediately transferred to the oncology pediatric oncology department, where he was subjected to the recommended chemotherapy, while he recently managed to return to his home.

It’s been eleven months since Maximos’ diagnosis and unfortunately his clinical state has deteriorated. Due to the rare genetic mutation he is suffering from, the child is presenting with psychomotor regression. This means that the little guy’s cognitive and motor skills are those of a toddler. Maximos is experiencing difficulty standing, he is presenting with severe hypertonia, while his joins have started to become stiff.

As we can all understand, the family’s expenses have become unbearable. Maximos’ mother had to quit her job, since the child requires care 24 hours a day. The little boy’s parents have recently reached out to ACT OF KINDNESS, and after a thorough inquiry of our interdisciplinary staff, we decided to support this family, who is experiencing immense hardship, both financially and psychologically.

About one year ago, 10-year-old Maximos’ life turned into a nightmare. If we join forces, we’ll be able to help him out and to offer him the chance to fight and win this disease! Together, for little Maximos!
