Little Olivia is a four-year-old girl who is being fed only via parenteral nutrition, since when she was just 9 days old, she was diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis and had to be subjected to a long surgery, during which the doctors had to remove most of her small intestine. One year ago, the little girl started being subjected to an intensive program that consisted of physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, since she hadn’t yet reached her developmental milestones.4 months ago, the little girl was diagnosed with Guillen-Bare, a rare syndrome which affects the cells of the nervous system. As a result, she is presenting with severe instability and muscle weakness, therefore she needs to proceed with her physiotherapy treatments, until she makes a full recovery.

Little Olivia is a four-year-old girl who has been facing an uphill struggle ever since she came into this world. When the little girl was only 9 days old, she was diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis. As a result, she was immediately subjected to a long surgery, during which the doctors had to remove most of her small intestine.

Today, Olivia is fed only via parenteral nutrition, while a year ago, she needed to be subjected to an intensive program that consisted of physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, since she hadn’t yet reached her developmental milestones. That’s when the family reached out to the Organization, and thanks to your defining support, we managed to cover our little friend’s health-related expenses for one whole year!

However, the family’s uphill struggle still hasn’t come to an end, since 4 months ago the little girl was diagnosed with Guillen-Bare, a rare syndrome which affects the cells of the nervous system. The little girl had to be long-term hospitalized, in order to receive the proper medication, while she was also subjected to plasmapheresis. Unfortunately, after this new diagnosis, the little girl is presenting with severe instability and muscle weakness, therefore she needs to proceed with her physiotherapy treatments, until she makes a full recovery.

As we can all understand, little Olivia’s family has once more reached a financial dead end. Physiotherapy and expendable supplies that are daily required for her care and nutrition, amount to a cost that the family is unable to afford.

They are not alone in this. We will stand by their side throughout this ordeal. We are great in number and if we join forces, we’ll be able to help out this family, who has been struggling during all of these years, in order to facilitate their daughter’s struggle!

    Just 9 days after coming into this world, she was diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis. She had to be subjected to a long surgery, where the doctors had to remove a great part of her intestine. Little Olivia survived thanks to the parenteral nutrition. About 1 year ago, she started being subjected to speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, since she hadn’t reached the desirable developmental milestones. Act of Kindness organization decided to support this family throughout their struggle, by launching an aid campaign in order to cover the child’s health related expenses for one whole year. Today, she only requires parenteral nutrition during the night hours.<br />
    However, the problems for this family have now intensified, since a few months ago the little girl was diagnosed with Guillen-Bare, a rare syndrome which affects the nerve cells.<br />
    Since she got discharged from the hospital, where she was subjected to plasmapheresis, while receiving a variety of medication, she has been presenting with muscle weakness and instability, therefore she will need to proceed with the speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions, in order to make a full recovery!<br />
    As we can all understand, the cost of the treatments and expendable supplies that are required for the little girl’s feeding and daily care is unbearable.<br />
    Little Olivia needs to become more autonomous, like all children her age are.<br />
    This year, she will be going to school for the first time, accompanied by a trained nurse.<br />
    She is still unable to form sentences. She is only using a few words in order to communicate her needs. At the same time, she is subjected to speech therapy exercises, which aim to improve her chewing and swallowing ability.<br />
    Her treatments will also help her improve her gross and fine motor skills, such as managing to get dressed on her own and other things that may be taken for granted for other children her age.<br />
    Once more, we want to become Olivia’s lighthouse! To be able to brighten her life, to change her life for the better!<br />
