Short Story
Panagiotis a 13-year-old boy, who has been daily struggling since he was born, as he has been diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy. Panagiotis diagnosis has not affected his speech or his cognitive development. He is a bright young man, with hopes and dreams for the future. However, the mobility problems he has been facing have severely affected his daily life. Panagiotis’ parents were recently informed about a surgical procedure called selective dorsal rhizotomy, which has been proven to be effective for children with his condition. If the young man is subjected to this surgery, which is performed in the United States, his motor skills will improve, while the spasticity of the lower extremities will be significantly reduced.
Panagiotis needs to urgently travel to the United States in order to be subjected to the surgery that will change his life forever!

Campaign Story
Panagiotis a 13-year-old boy, who has been daily struggling since he came into this world. The child was born premature and he had to be immediately transferred to the NICU, however 40 days later, he managed to get discharged and to return home. As months went by however, his mother started to notice that the hypertonia in the lower extremities would not subside, as it usually occurs to all infants. The parents consulted with their pediatrician, who recommended a brain MRI, which results were heart-wrenching, since Panagiotis was diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy.
Panagiotis diagnosis has not affected his speech or his cognitive development. He is a bright young man, with hopes and dreams for the future. However, the mobility problems he has been facing have severely affected his daily life. All these years, Panagiotis’ parents have tried every recommended treatment that is available in Greece. The child has been subjected to tendon lengthening, to physiotherapy, to botulinum toxin injections. These procedures however, did not manage to reduce the spasticity of the lower extremities. Panagiotis still has to wear leg splints, while he can only take a few steps with the help of his crutches.
Panagiotis’ parents were recently informed about a surgical procedure called selective dorsal rhizotomy, which has been proven to be effective for children with his condition. If the young man is subjected to this surgery, his motor skills will improve, while the spasticity of the lower extremities will be significantly reduced. The Organization has already come in contact with the clinic in the United States, where this procedure is performed, however the cost of this procedure is immense.
Panagiotis has been deprived of so many things of his childhood, however he is not giving up. The only thing he is asking for is a chance, so that he can be subjected to this specialized surgery. We have the power to offer him the ticket for this life-changing journey. Any contribution can make a great difference!
