The story of Lefteris

Lefteris is a 16 year-old boy who needs our support in order to acquire a standing device and a wheelchair. The young boy was born with meningomyelocele and hydrocephalus and he underwent surgery when he was just a little baby. Since then, he is being closely monitored by the doctors of the public hospital and he receives the required physiotherapy sessions that are paid for by the family’s medical insurance. However, he desperately needs some medical devices that could improve his quality of life, such as a wheelchair and a standing device. The wheelchair is necessary for the child’s independence, since it will allow him to move autonomously. The use of the standing device is imperative, since it will allow him to stand, therefore the condition of his musculoskeletal system will improve and he will no longer suffer from bedsores. The boy’s medical records have been thoroughly evaluated by the organization’s pediatrician, Mrs. Noula Paraskevi. The cost for the purchase of these devices, including the discount provided by their insurance, amounts to 5,234 euros, a sum that this multi-child family cannot afford.
